This is a saxophone quartet that I found on youtube. None of them are anybody famous, their names are (from left to right): Zach, Hudson, Devo, and Courtney. They had only been practising this piece (When I'm Sixty Four- The Beatles) for roughly a week so I was pretty impressed. This was recorded while the group was practising for a Solo and Ensembles competion at their school. I knew this song long before I heard this quartet perform it on youtube so I obviously enjoyed it more than I would a piece that I did not know. The original song, performed by The Beatles is almost a bit dreary sounding, but when this quartet performed it, it seemed more up-beat and cheery. I could not find any well-known alto saxophone artist on youtube to do any research on. The people in this quartet are only kids warming up to play at their school, so there is no information to be found on them on google. I like this performance alot actually because it's around my playing level. I think that the range is perfect for my playing level, if I were to play this piece in a quartet, or as a solo act. The difficulty of the piece is not very difficult at all. I don't "admire" this piece because I think that it's rather easy. The tone of all four of these kids seems very "high quality". It even says in the column on the right that the video recording is not the best. All in all I enjoyed listening to this piece, and I think these people should continue playing their instrument as long as they can. :)
This is a guy named Gary Hastings; he plays the flute. I couldnt find any famous flute players, that allee and megan didnt already do on youtube and i couldnt find information on any websites about him. This video has him talking for a long time and he eventually starts playing. I liked his performance a lot. I like the flow of his notes and how he was tounging like you couldnt hear him breathing it was a nice flow. I didnt know this song, but you could tell when he was using dynamics at certain points. The range of notes kinda stayed in the same pattern and stuff rather than jumping to random notes. I think this piece would be kinda hard to play because its really fast. In conclusion, i liked it. :)
www.youtube.com - M. SHIRKHODAYI - radif on clarinet
M. Shirkhodayi was born in Tehran, 1926. At age of 15 he entered in Tehran Music Academy. At this young age he became known for his wonderful playing of his clarinet. This piece that I was watching on YouTube was great. The sound, the rhythm, and the way he played every note perfect, was just amazing to me. He is a hero to many people. He has inspired many people with his playing of the clarinet. This song is not something you would sing along too, but a song that you would sit down and relax too. He's been on the radio many times, one of the times is when he performed as a soloist on Tehran Radio. He had many viewers listening to him. Just at the age of 19; then he became a member of the famous R. Khaleghi's Academic Orchestra. When I found this out I was amazed at this. He was so young and he was still playing at the age of 60. He recorded with the most famous musicians in his time, from Gholam Hossein Banan to Hossein Tehrani through Abolhassan Saba. His works along with those of Hosseinali Vaziritabar contribute to the creation of a radif for clarinet. He worked all his life as an expert for different regional Music Academies in Iran. In the end I think he is brilliant musician and a wonderful guy for sharing his talent with the world. I think he can be in an Orchestra at the age of 19, then if you work hard you can definitely achieve your goals in life. M. Shirkhodayi is a true inspiration to many people.
